Laichter House
Laichter House is the first modernist apartment building in Prague, originally designed by the father of Czech modernism, Jan Kotěra, for the family residence and publishing house of Jan Laichter. Jan Laichter founded the publishing house in 1896 with the help of T. G. Masaryk, the first president of democratic Czechoslovakia, and became one of the most important scholarly publishers in the country. The publishing house was forcibly closed by the communist regime in 1949. The house is now being restored by the family as a cultural venue and heritage site dedicated to the history of Czech publishing, reminding the public of the impacts of communist censorship. Visitors can explore original publishing spaces, apartment of the family, see period equipment, and attend literary and cultural events.
