Call for candidates

Closing date: 1st October 2019

Since 1975, the Senefelder Prize has been awarded in honour of Alois Senefelder, the inventor of lithography. It is one of the most coveted awards for artistic printmaking. For the year 2020 the International Senefelder Foundation (ISS), with the support of the Federal Association of Visual Artists (BBK), is once again announcing a competition honouring outstanding achievements in the field of artistic lithography and its further development in lithographic printing.

In addition to prize money totaling € 2,000.00, there will be an exhibition of works by the award winners in the Haus der Stadtgeschichte in Offenbach am Main as well as, hopefully, in other locations.

The jury is composed of the board members of the International Senefelder Foundation and representatives of artists of the BBK.

The prizewinners will receive their award in the summer of 2020 as part of a public celebration which will also mark the opening of the exhibition in the Haus der Stadtgeschichte in Offenbach am Main.

Accommodation costs and catering for the award winners can be assumed after arrangement and approval. There is also the possibility of a contribution towards travel expenses. The legal process is excluded.

Artistic works can be submitted (single or multi-colour original prints) in the following categories:

1. lithography: works on stone,

2. flat-print drawings: working on metal offset plates or foils,

3. mixed prints: further development to 1. and 2. or other experimental flat prints.

The prints may be made on hand or mechanical presses.
Photomechanical prints, screened reproductions, photocopies and digital prints are excluded.
The work must be posterior to 2016 and should be submitted without a frame.
The work should be accompanied by a brief description of the technique used.
The format may not exceed 100 x 70 cm.

In the first instance, works should be sent in digital form (jpg) to: info@senefelderstiftung.com, For this purpose, a leaflet is available for download on the homepage of the ISS. The jury will nominate the finalists for the second stage and will then ask them to send in the originals.

The winners will be announced in January 2020.

The works cannot be returned but the nominated works will be integrated into the Internation Senefelders Foundation’s collection.
