2014 annual conference of the AEPM to be held at the Gutenberg Museum, Mainz

The next two-day meeting of the AEPM will be hosted by the Gutenberg Museum in Mainz (Germany) in Autumn 2014 (the exact dates will be announced  in June).

Day 1 will be given over to a conference on the theme  of Exhibiting printing heritage.

The subjects which will be explored include:
– why exhibit printing and graphic communication heritage materials?
– making printing heritage relevant to the present day through exhibitions,
– what kinds of messages for what kinds of visitors?
– collecting documenting with a view to exhibiting,
– documenting collections  for exhibition,
– the role of traditional printing skills in mediation,
– cooperation and exchanges between museums and printing heritage workshops,
– case studies of recent make-overs of printing and graphic arts related museums,
– new printing, book and graphic communication projects.

Day 2 will include the annual general meeting of the Association and a visit to the permanent collection of the Gutenberg Museum.

The meeting is open to members of the AEPM as well as non members (with a supplement), with the exception of the annual general meeting which is open to currently paid up members only.

The aim of the conference, visits and numerous informal exhanges and discussions is to promote collaboration among European museums, heritage workshops and collectors in the field of printing heritage.

The provisional programme includes speakers from the Gutenberg Museum (Germany) and Lyons Printing Museum (France) whose permanent exhibitions are currently undergoing change.
